Marketing and Publications Internship
Are you highly organized and detail-oriented, passionate about writing, history, and/or culture, and eager to build publications and marketing skills? Then apply now for 64 Parishes‘ first Marketing and Publications Internship! The position will focus on social media, outreach, and the editorial process, providing interns with an overview of magazine and web publishing practices.

Job responsibilities

  • Work with marketing coordinator to develop and publish 64 Parishes social media content, identifying stories and images from our catalog of existing content and writing and editing copy
  • Monitor and track social media engagement across multiple platforms
  • Work with managing editor to build out editorial calendars and page layouts
  • Assist in uploading new and back-issue content to 64parishes.org
  • Assist with planning and staffing special events, including publication parties, trade conference tabling, and outreach programs
  • Learn about and participate in the editorial process
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and strong knowledge of English grammar and usage
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Curiosity and a passion for history, literature, and culture, particularly of Louisiana
  • Reliable and dedicated
  • Familiarity with mainstream social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Adobe Acrobat DC, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel


  • Rising junior, senior, recent graduate, or graduate student
  • English, journalism, communications, history or other humanities majors are particularly encouraged to apply

Work Location

  • Primarily New Orleans with possibility of travel throughout the state of Louisiana


  • Flexible, 10 to 15 hours per week for a total of 8–10 weeks beginning June 2020


This is a paid internship at $10/hour.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather and internal climate conditions prevalent at the time.  The work environment is considered to be that of a kitchen/cafeteria area, as well as an educational institution.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  While performing work in the kitchen, exposure to extreme heat/cold, sharp objects, food-borne illnesses and pathogens, as well as loud noise is common.  Safeguards and proper food safety protection is required. While performing work around the educational institution, exposure to blood, saliva and bodily fluids is common.  Proper training and protective equipment are required to avoid direct contact from blood, saliva and bodily fluids is required.
