Pontchartrain Beach

The landscape painting entitled "Ponchartrain Beach", by John Genin depicts the New Orleans lakefront circa 1870. This piece is one of a pair of long horizontal paintings of that area of Louisiana which had been a popular recreation place. It is considered genre because of it's depiction of an everyday scene, such as the people sailing in the distance and a group of working men fishing with nets to the right.
