Captain (later General) Horatio H. Davis, U.S.A
Painter John Wesley Jarvis was the great-nephew of John Wesley, the British founder of Methodism. He spent five winters in New Orleans on painting expeditions between 1820 and 1834. "Captain (later General) Horatio H. Davis, U.S.A." was made during 1820-1822.
