Plain Mary Smith
William T. Francis began his career in New Orleans, where he served as a church organist and head of the Juvenile Opera Company in addition to composing a range of musical works, mostly for the piano. He wrote “Plain Mary Smith” (1893) a few years before he began working in operatic comedy and burlesque theater in New York.
