Enslaved Peoples' Cabins and Sugarcane Boiling Kettles at Whitney Plantation, 2021

On large plantations, enslaved people typically lived in rows of raised wooden cabins. After harvesting, cutting, and grinding sugarcane, enslaved people boiled the extracted sugar juice in massive kettles over furnaces.
