Alexandra Kennon Shahin has joined the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities as Managing Editor of 64 Parishes. Prior to joining the LEH, she served as Arts & Entertainment Editor of the monthly regional culture publication Country Roads magazine, where she contributed writing and photographs documenting the culture, art, music, cuisine, history, and environment of the Gulf South. Her book Classic Restaurants of New Orleans, published by Arcadia Publishing/The History Press in 2019, chronicles the history of thirteen of the Cresent City’s most storied dining institutions. Originally from St. Francisville, Louisiana, Kennon Shahin holds degrees in Journalism/Communication and Theatre Arts from Loyola University New Orleans, and has performed in numerous theatre and film productions, including as the title character in the world premiere of a one-act play by Tennessee Williams. She also previously led historical, culinary, and cultural tours of New Orleans.
“I have long admired 64 Parishes for its deep and thoughtful coverage of Louisiana’s history and culture, and couldn’t be more ecstatic to lend my editorial vision and voice to such an important and elegant publication,” Kennon Shahin said. “Louisiana’s unique history, diversity, and geography all contribute to making it immeasurably rich in culture, and it is an honor to be given the opportunity to share stories that illuminate and contextualize the place we call home.”
