The Zion Harmonizers were one of the first gospel groups to perform at the nascent New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in the 1970s, thereby launching their reputation worldwide. In this photograph by Michael P. Smith, John Hawkins thrills the audience during a performance on Saturday, April 21, 1979.
