64 Parishes is pleased to open our first-ever visual arts special issue with the work of Baton Rouge artist Randell Henry. Henry began making his distinctive collages in 1980, tearing apart his own drawings for material; later, he added photographs before moving on to his own paintings, graphic images, and fabric as ingredients. His colorful, energetic works—influenced by abstract expressionism, cubism, and African and Asian art—give Henry a surrealist medium to explore dreams. Henry’s work has been displayed across the United States and in exhibitions in Europe and Africa.
