Lory Lockwood’s photorealist oil paintings of sports cars, motorcycles, trucks, engines, and even female mannequins gleam with hyperrealism, saturated colors, and idealized, detailed description. With titles such as Images of Desire, Hot Wheels, and Bikes and Babes, Lockwood’s oeuvre embraces symbols of speed and power, and objects upon which consumer dreams are projected. Although photorealism is the dominant technique in Lockwood’s collections, she stretches the genre with abstractions and manipulated images.
