“Doom & Bloom”

Chase Mullen

Chase Mullen, Doom & Bloom. 18” x 24” acrylic on birch panel.

Chase Mullen’s paintings depict the flora and fauna of his home state of Louisiana. He incorporates inspiration from antique field guides and scientific illustrations with a contemporary approach and a touch of playfulness. Highlighting the complicated relationship between the natural world and humanity’s presence, Mullen invites the viewer to consider the dynamic between humans and our environment—the ways that nature impacts our culture and sense of place, and vice versa. Mullen’s work has been displayed locally at institutions like the Louisiana State Archive galleries and at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, as well as in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and internationally.
