This 1873 bronze bust of Louis Moureau Gottschalk was sculpted by Achille Perelli, who was born and trained in Italy. After moving to New Orleans in 1850, Perelli taught at the Southern Art Union and the Artists' Association of New Orleans. He sculpted figures for several public monuments in the city.
