Kevin Levine
Captain Kevin Levine, a Mississippi River Branch Pilot, has made a second career as photographing the ships and maritime structures that are integral to his work environment.
Captain Kevin Levine followed his father’s career path as a Mississippi River branch pilot—sometimes called bar pilots—guiding ships through the treacherous sandbar formations at the mouth of the river. His deep love of Louisiana’s coastal waterways and area landmarks led to Levine’s avocation: photographing the ships and maritime structures that are integral to his work environment. These include three historical lighthouses, all engineering feats of the nineteenth century but now inaccessible and decaying.
