Unexpected Flowers

Carlton Scott Sturgill, Ferrara Showman Gallery

Carlton Scott Sturgill, Arrangement in Poppies, 2021. Reclaimed button-down shirts on birch plywood panel.

Carlton Scott Sturgill works with unexpected media, most notably paint sample cards and recycled clothing, to create eye-catching explorations of sensuality, tradition, and commodification. His floral sculptures and installationsmade by hand-cutting second-hand dress shirts into petals, then constructing individual blossomsrange from delicate posies and boutonnieres to sprawling, lush boughs, and have graced indoor and outdoor spaces across Louisiana and the nation.
