The current Louisiana State Capitol building is one of the state’s best-known and most recognizable landmarks. A famous Louisiana governor named Huey P. Long had it built. It is the tallest state capitol building in the United States, standing 450 feet tall, with 34 stories. Elected representatives from all over Louisiana meet in this building to work together to create laws and solve problems. Louisiana’s governor also has an office here. The building features many beautiful sculptures with symbols that are important in Louisiana and the United States. One of these symbols that is important in Louisiana is the pelican, a bird that is also found on Louisiana’s state flag.
