Tabasco® is a popular pepper sauce brand that got its start in Louisiana. The sauce is made by the McIlhenny Company, which is named for its founder Edmund McIlhenny. Edmund first planted seeds from Mexican pepper plants on Avery Island in southcentral Louisiana in the 1860s. Edmund used their fruit to invent a spicy red pepper sauce for the family table. Today the Tabasco company is still family owned, but their business has grown a lot. The company manufactures more than 700,000 bottles of traditional Tabasco sauce per day! They also make a variety of other flavors of pepper sauce using different recipes and ingredients.
